Follow in the footsteps of St Patrick on the oldest pilgrim route in Ireland and hear the authentic story of this iconic saint. Starting from the St Patrick’s Centre, Downpatrick you will walk to Down Cathedral and visit St Patrick’s grave in the grounds of the cathedral. Then you will visit Saul Church and a short distance from it you will gradually ascend Slieve Patrick mountain and see the tallest statue of St Patrick in the world. From this viewpoint there are beautiful panoramic views of the surrounding countryside over Strangford Lough and to the Mourne mountains. Retire to a local pub for lunch.
This tour could be combined with a half day visit to the Ards Peninsula. You will travel across Strangford Lough via a short ferry journey (less than 10minutes and a tourist attraction in itself) and then explore the Ards Peninsula on foot or by vehicle.
